1. Locate the rear tie down plates mounted to the outer side of each vehicle side frame. Some vehicles have a charcoal
canister attached to the frame. This canister must be removed to remove the tie down bracket and install the hitch. It
will be put back in place after hitch is installed. If the vehicle is equipped with the optional adjustable shock absorbers,
there will be a plastic harness clip attached to a tab at the top of each tie down plate. These harness clips must be
removed before the tie down plates can be removed from the frame. Follow instructions in Step 1a for harness clip
removal.
1a. Remove the plastic harness clip from each tie down plate by pinching the harness clip with needle nose pliers and
pushing it out of its attachment holes. See Illustration 1.
2. Remove the three bolts from each tie down plate and remove the plate from vehicle. Save the attachment bolts for later
re-use. See Illustration 2.
3. Position hitch assembly up to vehicle frame and align the four holes in each hitch frame bracket with the existing four
holes in vehicle frame. Bolt hitch frame brackets in place on each side using the three factory 12mm bolts removed
with the tie down plates in Step 1. Make the fourth attachment using the 12mm bolts #7 and conical washer #5
supplied with hitch. See Main Illustration.
4. Tighten all bolts to 75 ft. lbs. torque. Failure to tighten bolts as described may result in fastener loss or failure.
WARNING:
Use only a 5/8" diameter hitch pin with locking device to secure a ball mount in this receiver.
WARNING:
Be sure to check the hitch pin and hair pin for positive locking placement before towing trailer.
NOTE:
When hitch is not being used, remove ball mount from receiver and place the receiver cover into receiver opening.
NOTE:
Some states require a clear view of license plates. Remove trailer ball and/or ball mount when not in use if it
restricts view.
